This is the oldest of the 2 Mijas courses opened in 1976 and one of the largest on the coast. With its large fairways, large raised greens and generous amount of bunkers, it has a very open feel with a small amount of trees, and very little rough making it very user friendly.

In contrast Los Olivos is shorter and narrower with less hazards but is more undulating and has more trees to tighten your tee shots up, but these are 2 golf courses that will have you coming back year after year to try and master.

This course has only recently been opened but is as spectacular as all the rest on the Sol. Having been built on an old avocado farm it has wide fairways, large greens with a creek that runs through the course, and rivers marking the side boundaries. Having made full use of the natural features this has made Santana into a stunning golf course.

La Cala North was built on uneven and mountainous landscape and is considered suitable for any top player. Some of the greens are in the elevated American style where placing must be precise, and some fairways are inclined, ehich also causes problems. This is a course where intense concentration is needed at all times

The South course is equally as stunning as the North, with its undulationg fairways, large bunkers and precise greens. And you will not be disappointed by the spectacular views that greet you on every hole.

When you thought that the La Cala Resort had just about everything with their other two courses they came along and built Europa, but unlike a lot of course builders they decided that they would keep all the existing trees and protected indigenous plants such as Lavender, Rockrose, Rosemary and Palmettos. The Ojen river plays a major part on eight of the holes and cuts through three fairways with four tunnels to accommodate buggies.

Course designer Cabell B Robinson stresses the advantages for the average golfer: “The New Course is not only dramatic but will be easier for the average golfer” To quickly summarise how I feel about the three La Cala courses is if somebody said you can only play one more course during your lifetime it would have to be one of these.

It is very nice to have El Chaparral back as a major golf course on the coast after being closed , due to financial problems, some 15yrs ago and is looking in better shape than ever, with all the new fairways and greens. The stunning coast views make this well worth a visit to play this mid handicap course.
